Abstract
474,331. Coke ovens. OTTO & CO. GES., DR., C. Jan. 18,1937, No. 1466. Convendate, Nov. 2, 1936. [Class 51 (ii)] In an underfired coke oven battery which is carried by a concrete supporting platform f mounted on pillars o, expansion gaps p extending parallel to the ovens are left in the platform, and are spaced so that a number of pillars are located between successive gaps, which may be either above a row of pillars, or between two closely adjacent rows, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and Fig. 7 respectively. Metal plates q, r, t are fitted to facilitate sliding of platform on the pillars. One edge of a platform section may be anchored to a pillar as shown in Fig. 3, or both edges may be free. The joint may be packed with a compressible material such as sand, which may be inserted along a widened portion s of the slot, or an angled joint may be used to minimize escape of gases. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, adjacent pillars forming a pair are connected by a wall m which is apertured to accommodate the gas piping.
