Abstract

794,399. Furnace walls and roofs. DETRICK CO., M. H. July 17, 1956, No. 22055/56. Class 51 (2). A portable wall panel or unit 15, Fig. 1, for use in open-hearth furnaces &c. comprises a metal backplate 16, Figs. 3, 4, having angles 17, 18 welded thereto and between them rows of refractory bricks supported by members 28 carried by studs 33 welded &c. to the backplate. Each member 28 is formed with a threaded bore 34, Fig. 6, by which it is screwed on to its stud and a transverse bore 31 for a rod 32, Fig. 4, which is disposed in recesses 30, 31 formed in opposed vertical faces of adjacent pairs of bricks. The panel is supported on a rail 12 extending between vertical angles 10, 11 forming part of the furnace wall, by plates 20, 21 welded to the angle 17 and formed with slots adapted to fit over the rail. As shown in Fig. 5, a modified form of panel 45 is located between the upper face at a furnace wall 50 and the edge of the roof structure 46. The space above the unit is filled in with bricks 55 disposed above an expansion joint 57 and covered by an insulating member 56.
