Abstract

869,697. Wall lintels. WILLIAMS, I. June 19, 1959 [Aug. 6, 1958], No. 25174/58. Class 20(4) A wall having an opening therein includes a lintel for the opening consisting of two steel members secured together to form an inverted tee-section having a horizontal width corresponding to the thickness of the wall. In the cavity wall construction of Fig. 1 the lintel is formed by two flat steel plates 16, 17 secured together at right angles. A damp course 20 may be laid over the lintel and a door frame 21 may be provided. In the single brick wall construction of Fig. 3 the lintel is formed by two angle bars 23, 24 secured back-to-back, the bricks above the lintel being supported by timbers 25 resting on and nailed through the side flanges of the lintel. The underside of one or both flanges of the lintel may be covered with steel wire mesh &c. 18 to facilitate plastering.
