Abstract
1518099 Lintels HISTON CONCRETE PRODUCTS Ltd 20 May 1975 [28 Oct 1974] 46517/74 Headings E1K and E1W A steel lintel of Z-cross section comprises upper and lower shelves 10, 12 making angles of less than 90‹ with a central web 14 and vertically spaced by a distance substantially equal to the height of a standard brick 22, the outer edge of the upper shelf formed with a lip 18 to provide a key with mortar as shown in Fig. 2 or with concrete in which the shelf is embedded in use (Fig. 3 not shown). As an alternative the lip may be downturned. Preferably the lower shelf is provided with a drip plate 16. As shown the lintel is combined with a pre-stressed concrete lintel 20 of a width equal to the sum of the widths of a standard brick and of the wall cavity. A wooden batten may be fixed to the inner leaf by screws 28 plugged into the mortar between the bricks and the concrete lintel. In the Fig. 3 embodiment the concrete lintel is three bricks high and of reinforced construction with the upper shelf of the steel lintel embedded in it.
