Abstract

771,895. Furnace roots. DERLING, A. Aug. 11, 1954 [Aug. 11, 1953], No. 23369/54. Class 51 (2). An arched roof structure for open-hearth furnaces comprises pairs of rib-forming bricks 2, Figs. 1, 5, suspended by hangers 6 from girders 8, each formed of a pair of spaced channel bars suspended from the framework of the furnace. The lower end of each of the hangers is formed with a head having a rounded upper surface upon which rests a plate 9 supporting the bricks which are formed with recesses 17 in their opposed faces for accommodating the plate and the head. The filling bricks between the ribs are suspended in pairs by hangers 11 supported by cross-rails 10 resting on the channel bars. By this construction, burnt bricks may be removed and replaced while the furnace is in operation. The construction is also applicable to furnaces with flat roofs. The footings of the arched roof are supported through wedge-shaped bricks 3, 4, Fig. 1, by members 5 formed with cooling tubes 16 and suspended from the framework of the furnace.
