Abstract

903,670. Furnace roofs. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. June 9, 1959 [June 26, 1958], No. 19759/59. Class 51 (2). An open hearth furnace roof comprises rows of rib bricks 30 disposed between arcuate plates 24 connected by transverse rods 16 suspended by hangers 18 from bars 20 supported on channel girders 12, and rows of filler bricks 32 disposed between the ribs, the plates 24 and bricks 30 being subjected to pressure applied through transverse beams 36 seating in notches 34 formed in said plates 24. The beams 36 are subject to the pressure of jacks 38 attached to the girders 12 and may press against all the bricks of a non-ribbed roof. In use the bricks fuse to one another and to the plate 24.
