A refractory hanger member 9 for furnace roofs or walls comprises upper and lower head portions 15 and 10 with a web portion 17 tapering uniformly upwards to grooves 16 in opposite side walls 33. As applied to a furnace roof, Fig. 1, the hangers 9 support blocks 13 separated by refractory filler 14 and are suspended from girders 5 by metallic brackets 6.
