734,918. Furnace roofs. BOWMAN, E. W. Oct. 21, 1953, No. 29078/53. Class 51 (2). A roof structure for a continuous metal reheating furnace comprises oppositely disposed fixed roof sections forming supports for a removable middle section or manhole cover. The fixed sections comprise parallel girders 7 suspended from hangers 6 and carrying parallel castings 8 formed with T-shaped brick supporting members 9 engaging corresponding slots 10 in the roof bricks and also formed with shoulders 11. The removable middle section comprises a framework incorporating brick supporting castings 13 disposed between and in alignment with the members 9 and formed with lugs 12 resting on the shoulders 11, and also with depending brick retaining ears 17. The framework is completed by a rectangular channel member 13b, to which the castings 13 are attached and which is formed with lifting lugs 15 disposed centrally at opposite sides thereof. Bricks 14 and 16 have portions of adjacent faces offset as shown to form a stepped joint between the removable and fixed roof sections which may be filled with packing material.
