Abstract

956,026. Drop arches for kilns. PRENTON BRICK & TILE CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1962 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 45168/61. Heading F4B. A drop arch for a kiln comprises a plate-like member or members depending through a slot in the kiln roof and having means for engaging the roof of the kiln to support the drop arch. The arch is formed of slabs 10 of T cross-section, the head 10a of the T resting on ledges 11 at either side of the slot 12. The slot 12 and ledges 11 may be at the bottom of a channel 13 filled with heat insulating material. The slabs 10 may have vertical saw-cuts 14 and the clearance between the slabs and the slot 12 and between adjacent slabs is such as to allow for thermal expansion. The slabs 10 may be continued upwardly and provided with holes 15 to allow for easy removal. The head 10a of the T may be replaced by separate plates cemented or pinned to the slab 10.
