Abstract

1,020,219. Furnace roofs. E. J. LAVINO & CO. Nov. 16, 1964 [Aug. 3, 19641, No. 46669/64. Heading F4B. A furnace roof is formed from refractory brick units 30 with embossed metal plates 50, 52 attached by adhesive layers 501, 52<SP>1</SP> to adjacent faces 34, 36 thereof. Plate 52 has indents 110, 114 which co-act with indents 112, 116 in the face 36 to locate the plate and similarly plate 50 has a tab 72 for this purpose. On firing of the furnace the adhesive is destroyed, the metal plates combine with the refractory block 30 and the embossed portions 100, 80, 102, 82 collapse under expansion of the various parts. Bricks of different length may be placed together as in Fig. 7.
