Abstract

899,443. Furnace walls. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 7, 1960 [July 20, 1959], No. 23811/60. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). Refractory blocks 10 for furnace, kiln, oven or incinerator walls and preferably cast from alumina, alumina-silica, silica, chromite or magnesite comprise alloy steel channel members 15 embedded in the outer surfaces 11 and engaged by the flared ends 21 of sheet steel anchor members 20 bent over frame members 22. L-shaped brackets 18 welded to the channel members 15 are interconnected by rods 19 running through the refractory material. The blocks are formed with outer recesses 13 which co-operate to form grooves receiving sealing mortar when a gas-tight joint is required. Fig. 7 shows a roof and side wall comprising blocks 10 respectively suspended from channel girders 27 and from angle girders 26, girders 26 and 27 being secured to heavy frame members 28 and so spaced that there are two girders to each block. A layer of insulating material may be applied to the rear face of the wall either in sheet form or by spray or trowel.-
