Abstract
1,024,140. Metal-cased refractory bricks. HARBISON - WALKER REFRACTORIES CO. Feb. 26, 1965 [March 6, 1964], No. 8406/65. Heading F4B. A refractory brick 10 has end faces 13, 14 and an oxidizable metal casing 12, two adjacent sides 17, 20 of which are provided with expansion crimps 15, 16, 18, 19. Fig. 2 (not shown), shows a wall made from these bricks, the crimped faces contacting the plane faces of adjacent bricks. After firing the crimps 19 at the hot end 26 are compressed, Fig. 3 (not shown). A cavity 60 may be moulded into the bricks to provide a means of hanging the bricks for a furnace roof, Fig. 6 (not shown). The material used for the brick may be 70% magnesia and 30% chrome ore.
