Abstract

874,391. Refractory bricks. MARSHALL & CO. (LOXLEY), Ltd., THOMAS. Jan. 17, 1958 [Jan. 24, 1957], No. 2622/57. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). A composite refractory brick comprises a porous or light-weight backing 20 formed with a slot 22 extending between opposite faces and a dense facing 21 having a bulbous lug 23 engaging said slot, the angles between meeting points of any two converging surfaces of both lug and slot being obtuse. The lug 23 is disposed medially along the inner end of the facing 21 and comprises a cylindrical head joined to a tapering body section. It may be only partly as long as the slot. The facing may have an offset portion engaging a corresponding recess in the next lower course of a wall, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown). The bricks may be tapered for use in a curved arch, Fig. 9 (not shown), or may be suspended from rods extending through holes in the backing sections to form a flat arch, Fig. 10 (not shown). The facing may be made of dense firebrick, a castable refractory, sillimanite, a sillimanite-corundum mixture or silicon carbide.
