975,584. Tunnel-kilns; furnace charge supports. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDULTRIES Ltd. June 19, 1962 [June 22, 1961], No. 23556/62. Heading F4B. A continuous tunnel-kiln for sintering ceramic material, e.g. ferrites, comprises a tunnel 11 heated above and below by elements 2, and L-shaped conveyer elements 4 with an upright end wall 7 defining compartments 3 with the tunnel walls, each compartment being supplied with gas through roof inlets 8 and having offtakes 9 in the side walls. In a modification, Fig. 6, the conveyer elements comprise superposed compartments defined by a bottom slab 10, spaced tiles 12 leaving a central gas passage and rectangular frames 13 having side gas passages. The oxygen content of the gas may be varied from compartment to compartment, being for example, 14% in two alternate compartments and 0.4% in the middle one.
