Abstract

Exothermic insulating material comprising alternately positioned retaining and closing tiles are positioned at the top inside faces of ingots. The retaining plates have projections which hold them to the top of the ingot, and oblique channels on their vertical edges into which fit adjacent closing tiles conically sectioned to form a rigid fixture. Chamfering of the tile bottom reduces metal penetration between tile and wall, while horizontal marking or numbering of tile inside faces aids teeming control.
