Abstract

1,121,981. Chimneys. F. E. BEAUMONT Ltd. 7 March, 1967 [18 April, 1966], No. 16931/66. Heading F4J. A conventional chimney or chimney section 10 has a panel 15 located in the wall 11 to facilitate inspection or testing of chimney corrosion. A semicircular test panel 15 is welded into a correspondingly shaped orifice 14 formed in the section 10 of a steel chimney. The plate 15 is half the thickness of the surrounding wall 11 and of the same composition. Alternative shapes can be used for the panel, e.g. it may be square, Fig. 2 (not shown). The panel is advantageously located at critical points within the chimney where corrosion is at a maximum. When a removable panel is required, Fig. 2 (not shown) the panel may be welded at its periphery to the flange of a frame which is secured to the chimney wall by screwed studs. Other methods of securing the panel may be employed. E.g. with a concrete chimney a force-fitting is used. When the chimney has a refractory lining the panel may be provided with a similar lining.
