Abstract

943,130. Tube joints. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Aug. 3, 1962 [Aug. 31, 1961], No. 31353/61. Heading F2G. A joint between a larger tube 12, e.g. of mild steel, and a smaller tube 11, e.g. of zirconium alloy, having different coefficients of thermal expansion comprises an internal flange 14 on the tube 12 and an external flange 13 on the tube 11 within the tube 12, the flanges proving opposing annular sealing faces 17, 18 between which is a gasket 19, which may be of annealed silver, a plurality of spaced locking bolts 23 mounted within the tube 12 to clamp the flanges together uniformly, and a thermal expansion compensating ring 22 interposed between the bolts and flange 13. The bolts are, as shown, carried by a ring 21 screwed into the tube 12, and the faces 17, 18 are formed with spiral grooves.
