Coke ovens.- In a battery of vertical coke ovens the sets of regenerators 8, 8<a> are arranged one above the other in two rows with a common exhaust flue 5 between them. Each regenerator chamber is connected to the flue 5, through a reversing-valve 17 and a pipe 4 having an air inlet 10 and half the chambers are also connected to leer gas mains 6 through valve-controlled pipes 7 At both top and bottom of each heating-wall are two flues 3, connected respectively to an air regenerator and a gas regenerator, and nozzles 15 in communication with rich gas mains 12. The flow of heating-gases is regulated by adjustable bricks 11. The ovens can be operated either on lean gas, or on rich gas in which case all the regenerator chambers are used for heating air, or the two gases can be used simultaneously.
