383,622. Coke ovens. TOTZEK, F., 59, Salkenbergsweg, Stoppenberg, Germany.- (Assignee of Koppers Akt.-Ges., H. ; 29, Moltkestrasse, Essen, Germany.) April 9, 1931, No. 10549. Convention date, April 10, 1930. [Class 51 (ii).] In a coke oven battery having transverse regenerators some of which have air inlet and waste gas outlet ports at their outer ends, and others have these ports at the middle, common mains are provided which serve alternately for the supply of air and exhaust of the waste gases. In the oven shown each regenerator is divided by a partition 12 into two similarly functioning sections, and four main flues are arranged in the foundation structure, the two outer ones 5 being connected by ports 13 to the outer ends of the sole flues 14 of half the regenerators, while the inner ones 6 are connected through ports 16 to the inner ends of the remaining chambers. All four mains extend the length of the battery and have reversing-valves or dampers at one end for controlling the admission of air, and at the other end for controlling the exhaust of the waste gases. By these arrangements the flow paths for air and combustion products are equalized, both for the individual flues of a heating wall and for the different ovens. The pairs of mains 5, 6 may each be replaced by a single main.
