Abstract
1,152,162. Coke ovens. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. 12 April, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No.16689/67. Heading F4B. In a regeneratively fired underjet coke oven battery burning rich gas in twin flues 15, 16, even heating of the high coking chambers 10 is assisted by providing each leg of the flues with a low air inlet 31 in the base and an upper air inlet 29 or 30, all the former inlets being connected by ducts 33 to groups of regenerators 24 and all the latter being connected by ducts 34 to groups of regenerators 24a. The upper air inlets 29 in flues 16 are situated at a slightly higher level than inlets 30 in the flues 15. Each regenerator 24, 24a is connected to the two heating walls with which it is adjacent, but only to half the heating flues in each wall and each regenerator is also connected to a sole flue 25 with an air flap 26 at one end and a waste heat valve 27 at the other. Rich gas from a main 18 controlled by valves 19 passes through distribution pipes 20 and 21 and risers 23 and 23a to the flues 15 and 16, the respective burner nozzles being near to the oven sole level and higher. The flues 15, 16 in adjacent heating walls are staggered and the "on" "off" sequence of adjacent sets of flues are also staggered.
