Abstract
801,114. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO., Inc. Jan. 28, 1957 [March 20, 1956], No. 2995/57. Class 51 (2). A regeneratively fired coke oven of the compound underjet type having vertical heating flues 4 in which alternate flues have high rich gas burner ports HB and low rich gas burner ports LB respectively, the heating wall opposite the risers 15 for the high burner ports is tapered downwardly in three steps, Fig. 2. The corresponding portion of the wall above the low burner ports tapers upwardly in one step. For a coke oven in which the oven chambers 2 are 19 feet high with the nozzles of the high burner ports about 3 feet above the nozzles of the lower burner ports, the downwardly tapered wall sections are stepped down in the stages 5 inches -4¢ inches-4“ inches-4 inches thickness, and the upwardly tapered wall sections increase from 5 inches -5¢ inches thickness. Corresponding flues 4 on opposite sides of each oven chamber 2 have ports HB and ports LB in corresponding alternations, the ports being offset from one another, Fig. 4. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), ports HB and LB are disposed in corresponding flues 4 opposite one another. The flues 4 are divided into groups interconnected by cross-over flues 6, each flue 4 having connections 7 with a pair of regenerators 8. Rich gas is supplied from a main through headers 14 and underjet ducts 11.
