Abstract
392,672. Coke ovens. JAMES, R. W., 11, Queen Victoria Street, London.-(Semet- Solvay Engineering Corporation ; 61, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 5, 1932, No. 3524. [Class 51 (ii).] In a vertically-fired coke oven having in each heating-wall a number of groups of flues 1 .. 4 connected to the corresponding compartments of a transverse regenerator, alternate regenerator compartments 1, 3 are connected to a chimney flue 41 at one side of the bench, and the remainder, to a similar flue 42 at the other side. Each heating flue is connected by conduits 37 to two adjacent regenerators which are used either for pre-heating lean gas and air respectively, or, when rich gas is employed, both for air. The pairs of conduits 37 merge at the base of the heating-flues, and lead from passages 35 of triangular section, which are separated from the regenerators by ported partitions 36. Rich gas is supplied to the flue groups 1 and 2 from one side of the bench, and to the groups 3 and 4 from the other, and decarbonizing air is preferably supplied to the middle groups of burner nozzles only.
