Abstract

1,015,487. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. Inc. Aug. 16, 1962 [Aug. 16, 1961], No. 31560/62. Heading F4B. The heating walls of a horizontal regenerative coffer-type coke oven are divided into flues by vertical partitions, the bottoms of the flues of one wall are connected to the bottoms of the flues of another wall by cross-under passages, and the regenerators communicate with riser passages within the partitions having closely spaced outlets throughout the height of the flues. The heating flues 17 on either side of alternate coking chambers 12 operate in the same direction of gas flow, and are linked by passages 28 under the intermediate chambers 16 with other flues. Riser passages 37 within the partition walls 25 have spaced outlets 26, and alternate passages 37 communicate with regenerators G, A supplying lean gas and air respectively. When rich gas is used, it is fed from headers 31 on the battery roof to passages 33 opening into the top of the flame flues. The combustion gases pass downwardly within the fired flues, upwards through the waste gas flues and down through the riser passages 37 of the waste gas flues to the regenerators. The lean gas regenerators G are made wider than the air regenerators A, each wide regenerator G serving the flues of two adjacent heating walls and each narrow regenerator A serving the flues of a single heating wall. The draught in the flame flues is controlled by adjustable damper bricks at the inlet of the cross-under passages.
