Regenerators.-In an horizontalflued coke oven in which the ends of the flues are arranged all at one side of the bench and in which the direction of flow of the heating- gases is reversed in the flues, a regenerator chamber connected to a pair of flues is arranged beneath each oven and the two sets of alternate chambers are connected with two main flues running lengthwise of the bench. In the construction shown the regenerator chambers 15, 16 of the two sets are connected respectively on the one hand with the limbs 6, 7 of U-shaped flues in the heating-walls, and on the other with pairs of main flues 17, 18 which can be put into communication through a reversing valve with either the atmosphere or the chimney. Burners are fitted for each flue at both sides of the bench, and in each phase those supplying the limbs 6, 7 at opposite sides are in operation together. For heating the gas supply flues 19, 20 are interposed between the pairs of main flues 17, 18, the gas being passed through one or other of the flues 19, 20 according to the course of the waste, gases. In modifications the waste gases after leaving the main flues 17, 18 are passed through a recuperator or one or other of a pair. A construction of recuperator is described built up of blocks providing vertical passages for the air and horizontal ones for the waste gases. Specification 162,045 is referred to.
