Coke ovens.-In an horizontally-flued regenerative coke oven the connections between the regenerators and the heating flues are made without the intermediary of sole flues. In the construction shown, beneath each oven are two pairs of regenerator chambers E<1>, E<2> and E<3>, E<4>, the two inner chambers E<2>, E<3> of which communicate at their lower ends with main flues H<2>, H<3> and at their upper ends with conduits G<1>, G<2> leading to the lower ends of the outer chambers. Each chamber E<1> communicates through a port C<1> at its upper outer corner with the lowermost of a zig-zag series of horizontal heating-wall flues C, the uppermost of which is connected at the ,opposite side of the oven through vertical flues F<1>, F<2> with two adjacent chambers E<4>. Gas for combustion is supplied through pipes D, and .reversing.-valves are fitted in the stack connections so that the direction of flow of the air and heating gases can be reversed through the regenerators and flues.
