Abstract
267,906. Semet-Solvay Co., (Assignees of Hughes, C. H.). March 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Coke ovens.-In a regenerative coke oven, in which each heating-wall has two sets of flues associated respectively with the adjacent ovens, the connections are such that the direction of flow in the flues on both sides of the oven is the same. In the vertically-flued oven shown the two sets of flues 6 in each heating- wall are on opposite sides of a massive partition 3, and corresponding flues in the two sets are connected at their upper ends by a cross-over duct 7. Beneath the ovens and running parallel thereto are groups of regenerators, each group comprising a gas regenerator G flanked by two air regenerators A, the chambers being connected through passages 11, 12 with both sets of flues 6 on opposite sides of the corresponding oven. Adjacent regenerator groups are separated by a downward continuation of the partition 3, and each regenerator tunnel is divided by partitions 13, 14, 12 into four chambers, of which the two D, D<1> at the discharge side of the bench are larger than those at the pusher side. The chambers are connected through separate ducts 19 - - 22 to waste gas tunnels ('. C<1>, and each duct has an air inlet and dampers for controlling reversal. The gas regenerators have in addition valve-controlled connections to a lean gas main. The ovens may be fired by rich gas supplied through ducts 141 beneath the heating-flues, and in this case all the inflow regenerators may be used for heating air. With both methods of firing, the inflow and outflow groups of regenerators alternate along the length of the bench. The invention is also shown applied to an horizontally-flued oven, the crossover duct extending between the uppermost flues of the two groups in the same heating-wall. In both vertically and horizontally flued ovens the cross-over duct is situated some distance beneath the coal line so that undue heating of the gas space is prevented.
