Abstract
497,911. Coke-ovens. STEINFELDT, H. April 28, 1938, No. 12704. Convention date, April 29, 1937. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In a vertical - chamber coke-oven adapted to be heated with lean or rich gas, or a mixture of both gases, the rich gas pipes disposed in the oven masonry are cooled by a current of air to prevent decomposition of the gas. Lean gas from a producer 4 may be supplied to the heating flues 3 through nozzles 6, and rich gas through a collecting pipe 8 and valvecontrolled distributing pipes 9. The pipes 9 extend through pipes 10, Fig. 4, inserted in vertical channels 16 in the oven masonry. Air is drawn by the oven draught through inverted funnel-shaped openings 15 up one side of a longitudinal web 13 in the annular space between the pipes 9, 10 and down the other side to a collecting pipe 14. The air may be introduced directly, or through the recuperator, into the heating flues to support combustion. Alternatively, the webs 13 may be omitted and the pipes 10 connected to the pipe 14 by additional pipes in the masonry.
