Abstract
185,811. Piron, E. June 2, 1921. Gaseous-fuel furnaces; regenerators.-In a vertical-flued coke oven having a recuperator beneath the ovens, and ascending air-supply flues 9 in each heating-wall alternating with downcast combustion flues 8, gas is supplied through depending nozzles 11, which project down into the combustion flues to a point below the level at which the air is admitted. The recuperator has alternating vertical flues 16, 17 for air and waste gases respectively, and these are connected on the one hand with foundation flues 24, 25 and on the other with flues 15, 14 in communication with the air supply and combustion flues 9, 8. All the flues and connecting-ports are made of comparatively large cross-sectional area, to reduce to a minimum the resistance to the flow of gases, and it is stated that by this construction a uniform temperature distribution throughout the ovens is obtained automatically. The gas nozzles 11 are preferably made of carborundum. The recuperator is built in blocks separated by expansion joints, and the bricks used therefore are L- shaped and are laid in opposite directions in adjacent courses.
