Abstract
389,502. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. OF DELAWARE, Koppers Building, Pittsburg, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Ackeren, J. van ; Koppers Building, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Sept. 11, 1931, No. 25540. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1930. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] In a twin-flued regenerative coke oven having beneath each heating-wall a transverse series of regenerator units some of which operate for inflow and others for outflow, leakage of gas into the outflow regenerators is prevented by providing passages, in communication with the atmosphere, in the partitions between units conveying fuel gas and waste gases. In the oven shown, in which the two flues of a pair are connected at both top and bottom to allow recirculation of a proportion of the waste gases, each regenerator unit 26 (with the exception of the end half-size units) is connected through ports 46 to two flues 23 of two adjacent parts, and each flue is connected to two regenerator units. Adjacent series of regenerator units are separated by transverse walls 29, Fig. 3, and in these walls are passages 30 in communication with the atmosphere. Similar passages 33, 35 are provided in the walls 32 between units conveying gas and waste gases, and between the rich gas ducts 15 and the regenerators. The passages 30, 33, 35 are connected and the passages 30 are extended both upwards and downwards by expansion joints 36 which are packed with rock wool. The end bracings of the oven comprise pairs of buck-stays 38 between the ovens, and more widely-spaced stays 42 at the regenerator portion of the structure. Specification 349,604 is referred to.
