Abstract
112,365. Yates, H. J., Brayshaw, S. N., and Brayshaw, E. R. April 28, 1917. Pottery kilns.-The walls of a gas furnace or kiln primarily for firing pottery but applicable also for other purposes are built with a regenerative chamber wherein the waste gases of combustion heat burners placed in them, the gas and air supply pipes and fittings being placed outside the furnace. Fig. 4 shows a furnace with regenera. tive chambers A in both walls. In each wall are six burners preferably those described in Specification 110,960; these are arranged in three groups of two on each side adjacent to inlets a<1> into the working chamber and opposite to corresponding exhaust passages a<2>. the exhaust passages a<2> on the one side being in vertical planes between the burners D and inlets a<1> on the other side. Loose stoppers or dampers b<1> may be fitted in the exhaust passages. The burners are supplied with gas and air by pipes E, F arranged as shown outside the walls. The exhaust passages a<2> lead, the gases into the regenerative chambers A and thence past baffles G to a similar chamber in, and an outlet flue above, the end wall of the chamber. Smaller furnaces have burners at one side only, preferably in pairs as shown, but the burners may be at the top or bottom only, the exhaust passages a<2> being in the same wall. The burners D are mounted in frames b and the floor consists of blocks C between which the flames pass.
