Abstract
801,592. Vertical retorts. SIMON-CARVES, Ltd. (Otto & Co. G.m.b.H., C.). May 2, 1956 [June 17, 1955], No. 17520/55. Class 51 (2). In a vertical retort setting, the retorts 1 are disposed between banks of horizontal heating flues 9 having interconnecting ports 10 controlled by dampers 11, the total cross-sectional area of the ports 10 increasing towards the top. Lean gas is introduced into the recuperator compartments 13 and 14 through regulable nozzles 12, and preheated gas from each compartment 13 enters the lowest flue 9 at 20, that from each compartment 14 being introduced into other flues 9 at different levels 21, 22 and 23 under control of dampers 15. Air is similarly introduced through compartments 16 and 17, partitions 24 separating the air and gas inlets to each flue. Gases rise through the flues 9 to the top flue 18 which discharges them into the recuperator flues 19. Additional metal tube recuperators 3 for the air and lean gas are heated by the waste gases passing from the flues 19 to waste ducts 20. The setting may be heated by rich gas introduced at 21, in which case all the recuperator compartments 13, 14, 16 and 17 are used to preheat air.
