Abstract

418,316. Retort furnaces. WEST, F. J., WEST, E., and WEST'S GAS IMPROVEMENT CO., Ltd., Albion Ironworks, Miles Platting, Manchester. May 4, 1933, No. 13010. [Class 51 (ii).] A retort setting for the carbonization of coal &c. consists of a vertical cylindrical setting containing two similar self-contained units each comprising a gas producer and a retort with its associated combustion and heating-gas flues. In each half of the setting, gas from a producer d passes through a V-shaped flue k and is admitted under control of dampers t to superposed combustion flues f around the lower part of the retorts. Air is similarly supplied under control of dampers u from a vertical flue n and conduits o, and the products are collected in the vertical flue h, passing thence to the chimney i through circulating flues g around the upper part of the retort. Additional air is supplied to the combustion chambers from the conduits o through damper controlled ports v.
