Kiln fire-places; air, supplying.- In a furnace or kiln having a circular outer wall with a number of fireplaces 6 therein, each fire-place is surrounded by an air passage 24 leading to an annular space between inner walls 7, 9, the air heated therein being supplied either through ports 26 for secondary combustion, or through ports 31 when it is desired to cool off the contents of the heating chamber. The supplies of air through the two sets of ports are controlled by dampers' 28, 30.
