Abstract

In a horizontal coke oven battery of the Coffee type, additional heat is supplied through the heating wall in regions where the coking progress would be lower with uniform wall heating. The coke oven may have twin flues with one or more additional connecting ducts and damper controls as in Specifications 1,169,478 and 1,158,243. Alternatively, the heating walls may be thinner in the regions concerned or in these regions the walls may be of material having a higher thermal conductivity. The fuel gas nozzles may be disposed above the normal flue level, e.g. at a height of 100-1000 mm. above oven floor level.
