Abstract
447,380. Coke ovens. GAS CHAMBERS & COKE OVENS, Ltd., and BOWATER, N. J., Artillery House, Artillery Row, Westminster. Jan. 9, 1936, No. 751. [Class 51 (ii)] In a coke oven adapted for operation at low or intermediate temperatures, in which combustion is effected out of contact with the oven walls in a chamber or flues A separated from the oven walls by the flues B, the flues A are fired alternately by upward and downward combustion, and are associated with reversible generators. In the downward firing phase air from the regenerator R passes upwards through the flues B and burns with gas supplied through nozzles at the tops of the flues A. The two firing-phases may be of unequal length, the upward one being the longer, and the regenerators which absorb heat during this phase may be larger than the others, so that the air which passes through the flues B will be heated to a higher temperature.
