Class 126 An incinerator for a building having at least two floors includes a combustion column extending through both floors and divided by a vertical partition into a gas discharge flue substantially open to atmosphere at the top of the building and a refuse supply channel, refusecharging means associated with the upper floor, first passages through the partition connecting the refuse supply channel and the discharge flue, at least one draught conduit arranged laterally of the discharge flue and parallel and contiguous thereto and second passages between the draught conduit and the flue. As shown, an incinerator comprises a casing 10, a partition 30, supported by an arch (not shown) above a charging door 24 shoots 16 for the insertion of refuse on each floor into a refuse supply channel 32 on one side of the partition, the other side of the partition forming a gas discharge flue 34, apertures 44 connecting the chamber 32 and the flue 34 and apertures 42 connecting the flue 34 with one or more draught conduits parallel and contiguous thereto. The partition is built from refractory blocks, each having a pair of webs 40 forming the flue 34 and conduits 46, 48, Fig. 3. Apertures 42 and 44 preferably slope upwardly towards the flue 34. A U-shaped block 50 retains the partition in position. The top of the channel 32 is covered by a grid 36 and a top cap 18 is provided.
