Abstract
911,689. Horizontal coke ovens. SIMONCARVES Ltd. Jan. 25, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 2870/61. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a compound CoppÚe type coke oven, each heating flue has a passage for supplying lean gas and a passage for supplying air entering the heating flue through a common opening in the floor of the flue, and a conduit partly overlying the common opening and leading mixed gas and air to a point above the bottom of the flue, and a rich gas inlet horizontally offset from the air and gas inlet. In a regenerative, hairpin flued oven the passages from the gas and air heating regenerators, separated by a partition 41, open into a common T-shaped inlet 62 in the bottom of the flue. A conduit 66 supported by bricks 63, 65 limiting the stem of the T-opening overlies the stem part 67 only of the inlet. Sliding bricks 74, 76 control the size of the inlet formed by the arms 70 of the T-opening, and a sliding brick 78 controls the top outlet of the conduit 66. A divider 80 separates the gas and air flowing into the conduit. During lean gas operation, gas and air mix in the arm part 70 of the inlet to burn at the bottom of the flue, while the gas and air entering the conduit 66 mix above the partition 80 to burn in the conduit 66 and flow into the flue. The thin walls of the conduit radiate heat to the lower part of the flue to equalize the heating throughout the height of the oven. During rich gas heating, combustion air is supplied to the flues through both passages, part forming a stream of air from the bottom of the flue parallel to and horizontally spaced from a vertical stream of rich gas from the nozzle 56, and part forms a second parallel stream of air entering the flue at the top of the conduit 66 so that even heating can be obtained over the height of the oven. Specification 911,688 is referred to.
