Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In the furnace of the parent Specification, the air supply to the burners is also heated in regenerating chambers which may be arranged and controlled in a manner similar to that employed for heating the gaseous fuel. As shown in Fig. 2, the air for combustion at one or other of the burners A<1>, A" passes first through one or other of the regenerative chambers L', L" disposed adjacent the similar channels C<1>, C" for the fuel. In the form shown in Figs. 4 and 6, the space between the burners constitutes the hearth proper, while the space H serves as a preheating hearth. The air-heating regenerators may be arranged in the burner passages instead of below the furnace as in Fig. 2. Fig. 9 illustrates diagrammaticallv the arrangement of the plant, the gas regenerative chambers C<1>, C<11> and the chambers L<1>, L<11> serving the burners A<1>, A<11> and the combustion products passing to the chimney X some by way of the inactive chambers C<1>, L<1> and the rest through an economizer Z.
