Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-A regenerative coke oven has gas-ducts 14, 15 below each line of combustion flues 9, respectively supplied with gas from distributing passages 16, 18, which alternately communicate with a gas-heating passage 19, 20 by means of ports 23. 24 controlled by reversing- valves 26, 27 arranged in the end of the furnace structure. In Fig. 7, which shows the air and gas circulation, the gas ports are indicated by circles and the air and waste-gas ports by squares, gas and air being supplied to alternate flues 9 and waste gases withdrawn from the intermediate flues: the currents are reversed in the flues 9 bv means of the valves 26 and 27 and the regeneratorreversing valves. When gas of high thermal value is used, it may be supplied direct to the ends of the distributing-passages 16, 18, the heating-passages 19, 20 being inoperative. Specification 160,626 is referred to.
