Abstract

183,247. Danforth, G. L. April 20, 1921. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In an open-hearth furnace, gas delivered by a downwardlyinclined and tapered port 4 and air delivered by tapered poits 7 mix in a chamber 5 and pass to a melting-chamber 8 having diverging watercooled walls 9, 10. The gas and air are supplied respectivelv by flues 14, 20, reversing valves 15, 19, and regenerators 17, 21, and the air ports 7 may straddle the port 4, which is water-cooled at its entrance. In the furnace shown, forced draught is supplied by a fan 23 and a waste-heat boiler system 28, 30, is provided. The two ends of the furnace are identical in construction.
