Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In an open-hearth reversible regenerative furnace a relatively high velocity is imparted to the inflowing combustible mixture by concentrating it in a single port 1 while, on the outlet side, ports 4, in addition to the ports 1, are open to the stack draught. To obtain this result the gas is supplied as at 2 into the air port 1 and the supplementary air ports 4, arranged above and at the side of the port 1, are controlled by dampers 7. The dampers 7 slide in water-cooled tube frames 8, and each pair is operated through a rock-shaft 13 by hydraulic, or other pressure-fluid cylinders 17, or by other means. Cooling-pipes 40 are arranged adjacent to the gas channels 2.
