Abstract
119,273. Topham, W. Sept. 22, 1917. Reverberatory furnaces.-A reversible regenerative furnace for heating ingots &c. is constructed with gas and air ports 19 and 22, respectively, at cach end arranged at opposite sides of a bridge wall and perpendicular except at their upper ende, where they converge to cause the hot air and gas to commingle in a chamber behind the furnace bridge 25, the said ports, where they converge, being lower than the top of the said bridge. A chamber 21 is arranged at the lower ends of the air ports in which dust &c. may accumulate, stoppered poking- holes being provided in connexion with the ports and the said chamber through which accumulating matter may be removed. An air channel 23 is formed in the bridge wall between the gas and air ports. The regenerators 12 for the air are arranged at each end below the level of the furnace, and each of them is constructed with a depending partition 15 arranged as shown. Gas is delivered through a reversing valve to a chamber 18 at either end, from which the gas ports rise. A separate reversing-valve is provided for the air and the waste gases on their way to the chimney, the waste gases passing out of the furnace only through the ports which serve also for the admission of air.
