Abstract

Reverberatory furnaces.-In a gas-fired furnace, air from a recuperator beneath the working-chamber passes to an adjacent transverse flue q, from which part is delivered into the gas flue b from below through ports r, while the remainder enters a second transverse flue u at a higher level and passes into the gas flue from above through ports v. In the construction shown, the furnace comprises two working-chambers c with a single gas producer a between them. The products of combustion leave the working-chambers through the ports e, and after traversing the passages f, g, h, of the recuperators, enter transverse flues i in communication with a roof flue l and the chimney. The air passages n, p, of the recuperator are situated between the sets of waste-gas passages f, h, and are in communication with an horizontal chamher o between the upper and lower sets. A supply of gas from an external source may be delivered through passages at the sides of the recuperators, a transverse flue x, and ports z. In this care the producer may be bricked up.
