Coke ovens.-In a vertically-flued coke oven in which gas is supplied to the flues 2 from distributing chambers 4 and is burnt with a limited amount of air from the regenerators 6<1>, secondary air for completing combustion is supplied at different levels 22, 24 from chambers 14, 15 in the walls between the regenerators. As shown there are two rows of chambers 14, 15 corresponding with the two levels for the admission of secondary air, and in each row the number of chambers corresponds with the number of gas-distributing chambers 4. The chambers 14., 15 are connected with a pressure main 20 through valve pipes 17. The transverse regenerators 6<1> are connected to the reversing-valve through longitudinal regenerators 9, 9<1>.
