Abstract

215,994. Schreiber, E. June 18, 1923. Gaseous-fuel furnaces. - In a regenerative open-hearth furnace, means are provided for heating by generator gas passing through a regenerator or by gas of a high calorific value, in the latter case the gas regenerator being used for heating air supplied to mix with the gas. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the furnace is provided with an air regenerator chamber f supplying air through passages g to the air port h and by way of damper-controlled openings k to the, gas port c supplied with generator gas from the gas regenerator chamber a and passage b. A swivelling nozzle e is employed for supplying gas of high calorific value to the port c, in which case air is supplied to port from the regenerator chamber a. The nozzle e may be used for supplying air to the port c when generator gas is used.
