Abstract
101,757. Thompson, C. H. March 21, 1916. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In open-hearth and muffle furnaces heated by a gas-producer com. bined therewith, the gas, after leaving the producer, passes into a chamber provided with a depending partition forming a U-shaped passage for the gas, the uptake of the passage being provided with an inlet for heated air, which is delivered against the partition above its lower edge. An additional air inlet may be provided below the partition. Fig. 1 shows a muffle furnace in which gas from the producer a enters the chamber c provided with a partition d. Air entering at h passes through circuitous passages i in a regenerator arranged beneath the muffle, and is delivered in a heated condition at e against the partition d. An additional supply of heated air may be delivered into the chamber c at m.
