519,474. Regenerators. SCHWARZE, P. Oct. 18, 1938, No. 30099. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1937. [Class 64 (i)] An air heater for a blast furnace consists of superposed hollow bricks 6 forming alternate vertical air and gas passages. Gas and air for combustion are admitted through an opening 1 in a casing around the brickwork and the products of combustion pass from a dome at the top of the casing downwards through the brickwork to an outlet 3. The air enters the brickwork through an opening 2 and flows upwards through the passages and then downwards to an outlet 7. The ends 9 of the gas passages extending through the air admission and outlet chambers may be made of metal. The passages in the bricks may be coated with silicon carbide. The bricks may have passages formed as described in Specification 493,608, [Group XII].
