Abstract
368,482. Air heaters. SADWITH, R., 39, Randolph Place, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A. Feb. 5, 1931, No. 3702. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1930. [Class 64 (i).] A gas or oil fired air heater comprises a combustion chamber and one or more heat interchanging chambers 2 in which the products of combustion pass downwardly across the direction of flow of the air which is heated in a plurality of horizontal passes 6, both the heated air and the products of combustion being withdrawn from the lower portion of the heater. The refractory walls 4 of the combustion chamber form partitions having openings 5 through which the products of combustion pass to the chambers 2 and downwardly around the pipes 6 to a flue 12 communicating by a pipe 13 with an exhaust fan. Atmospheric air is drawn in at 6<1> to header 8 communicating with the uppermost tier of pipes 6 and passes by end connections 7, 7<1> to the lowest tier whence the heat air is withdrawn through a header 9 and pipe 10. In a modification a single heat interchanging chamber is used. The heaters may be operated in batteries.
