Air-heating furnaces. -In an air-heating furnace the space between an inner combustion chamber 1 and an outer casing 3 is divided by a partition 15 into two annular compartments in the outer of which are arranged a number of tubes 5 connected in groups for the passage of the combustion products, the air to be heated passing ' first through the outer compartment over the tubes, and then through the inner compartment in contact with the walls of the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber is fired by an axially arranged burner at one end, and the two end smoke boxes 6, 7 are so partitioned that the heating-gases pass first through a lower group of tubes 5<1>, then back through two side groups and finally to the outlet flue 8 through an upper group. The annular air-heating compartments are subdivided by transverse partitions 4.
