Regenerators. - In a water-tube boiler of the kind in which two groups of steam-generating tubes 3 connect an upper drum 1 to two lower drums 2 at opposite sides of a combustion chamber 4 the casing at the outer side of each group of steam-generating tubes is adapted to form two upwardly extending flues 10 for the combustion products, each traversed by a group of air-heating tubes 12 communicating at one end with the atmosphere and at the other end with a passage 13 or 13a leading to the space below the grate or to the burner boxes. The casing is divided intermediate of its length by two inwardly extending tube plates 7, Fig. 3, connected together at their inner ends 7a so as to form between them an air space 8, and the air heating tubes 12 are carried between the tube plates 7 and tube plates 9 arranged near the front and rear walls 5a, 6a of the boiler. The passages 13, 13a each communicate with a passage 13b below the combustion chamber and with burner boxes at the front of the boiler when such are provided.
